Bilehdhoo marked a significant milestone in the island’s development as the outdated powerhouse, in service for 24 years, was replaced with a modern and efficient facility.

The new powerhouse, spanning an area of 2200sqft, incorporates an engine room, control room, chimney, fuel tank, storeroom, pantry, and a toilet. The engine room has been designed to accommodate a maximum power capacity of 1600kW. Notably, the powerhouse has been engineered to minimize noise pollution through the installation of double walls and sound attenuators, ensuring a quieter operation of the electric generators.

Complementing the powerhouse, the newly constructed office building covers an area of 1600sqft and is equipped to accommodate a minimum of 30 staff members. The modern facility aims to enhance customer service and provide a cleaner and more pleasant working environment for the workforce. It encompasses essential amenities such as a reception area, a general office space, a meeting room, a manager’s room, a technical staff room, a pantry, restrooms, and toilets.

The relocation of the F.Bilehdhoo powerhouse to its new site brings several benefits to the local community. By reducing noise and smoke emissions, the new facility mitigates the adverse effects on nearby residents, creating a more harmonious living environment. Furthermore, the upgraded powerhouse is designed to meet the island's growing power demands, ensuring a sustainable and reliable source of electricity for years to come.

Safety and adherence to health standards are of paramount importance in the operation of the new powerhouse and office building. Stringent protocols and measures have been implemented to minimize work-related risks and hazards, guaranteeing the well-being of the staff and the surrounding community.
