Fenaka Corporation Limited to operate integrated water resources management systems in Maduvvari and Dharavandhoo

Minister of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology Aminath Shauna has inaugurated integrated water resources management systems established in two islands, funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), and will be operated by Fenaka Corporation Limited.

The water resources management systems were established in Raa Maduvvari, and Baa Dharavandhoo. These systems were established under the grant aid of GCF to provide water security for vulnerable island communities facing climate impacts.

The system established in Maduvvari includes two 55T desalination plants capable of producing up to 110 cubic metres of water per day. The system also includes a 400T storage tank and an 8.6km water supply network with household connections.

Meanwhile, the system established in Dharavandhoo includes two 25T desalination plants capable of producing up to 50 cubic metres of water per day. The system also includes a 300T storage tank and an 11.2km water supply network with household connections.

Addressing the ceremony held to inaugurate the water resources management system in Maduvvari, Environment Minister Shauna revealed the systems would be operated using renewable energy. As such, she noted that a 25kW solar PV system has been established as part of efforts to reduce fuel consumption and make the water supply services more sustainable. She added that this would reduce operational costs by about 30 percent.
