Fulhadhoo New Powerhouse Commenced Operations : An Alleviation to Difficulties Faced by the Islanders

The beginning of the long awaited solution to Baa Fulhadhoo’s poor electricity connection has come with the opening of the new powerhouse on 15th October 2021.

The new powerhouse was modeled and constructed according to the new powerhouse design of the company and consists of engine room, panel room , fuel storage as well as an office block.

According to Fulhadhoo fenaka branch the powerhouse began its operations with a brand new 250 kW generator in addition to existing generators which will be sufficient to solve all the electricity capacity problems in the island.

The old powerhouse which was providing electricity to the island until now has been at the brink of breaking down due to old age and poor maintenance. It is also located within the island close to the living populace, which had created many issues for the islanders living close to the powerhouse. Constant deafening noise, oil contamination of fresh water lens, and the smoke fumes from the powerhouse has been also causing several health hazards to the locals living in close proximity to the powerhouse.

The new powerhouses build across islands under Fenaka will have state-of-the-art office buildings and an upgrade of the fuel storage network. There will also be a sound attenuator that will control sound to 70 decibels or less that are in line with the Utility Regulatory Authority’s standards and regulations.
