Increasing Our Capacity of Solar Energy Generation

We aim to increase our power generation capacity from solar energy through positive partnerships.

Deafening noise from powerhouses, underground water contamination caused by high volumes of leaked oil, harmful exhaust fumes from powerhouses released right into homes, are only a handful of complaints from the never-ending list of concerns raised repeatedly over and over again by the majority of island communities in the country. In addition to being a great burden, these detrimental conditions from the poorly planned and poor maintained powerhouses have been causing several health problems among many islanders.

In an attempt to bring a sustainable solution to these problems, the company has formulated a plan to replace diesel power generation with solar power generation. The goal is to transform 70% of power generation from Fenaka’s powerhouses to power generation from renewable energy sources.

Through various projects, we have been installing solar PVs in various islands and transforming power generation to solar and diesel hybrid power generation systems. We have now installed 7487 kWp of solar systems across our operations. We see this as a huge learning curve to accelerate our pace in our sustainable energy journey.

We also encourage households to invest in their own solar PV systems. These systems are then connected to the main electricity grid of Fenaka and operated as per the net-metering policies of the company. From 2020 onwards, the company will also be offering home solar solutions to our customers. In addition to being environmentally friendly, this would also result in huge savings for the company from a reduction in diesel costs, as well to customers out of savings from their electricity bills. Through such initiatives, we aim to create shared goals to ensure greater sustainability.
