With the outbreak of COVID-19 in the Maldives, Fenaka has been involved in the establishment of isolation and medical facilities across the country. As such, a total of over 350 employees have actively participated in various works related to these facilities.
Following a strategic decision by MD Ahmed Saeed Mohamed, the company selected employees from various Fenaka branches across the country to work on the projects. Since then, our employees have worked tirelessly day and night on the projects. Despite being away from family and relatives, and experiencing Ramadan during the period, the motivation and dedication of the employees have been exemplary.
Medical Facility in Hulhumale’
Under the leadership of MD Saeed, Fenaka employees have actively participated in the establishment of medical facilities in Covid Village in Hulhumale’. This facility is planned to be used as an isolation facility with a capacity of 300 beds. The facility was constructed under the supervision of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and in collaboration with various other institutions such as Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure, Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Maldives Association for Construction Industry (MACI), Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), Amin Construction and State Trading Organisation (STO).
The hard work and the strong motivation of our team have been remarkable. This was especially profound when even though COVID-19 positive cases were found among those working in the site including one of our employees, instead of stepping back, our employees further strengthened in their work.
The facility was completed and handed over to Indira Ghandi Memorial Hospital in a special ceremony held on the 24th of May 2020.
Quarantine Facilities in Farukolhufushi and Hulhule’ Island Hotel
Under the supervision of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), we have been working to refurbish Farukolhufushi as an isolation facility and to establish a medical facility in Hulhule’ Island Hotel (HIH).
As a result of hard work and great teamwork, the facility at Farukolhufushi was completed within a mere 4 days period. Similarly, refurbishment works at HIH were also completed in a short period of time.
Quarantine Facility in AA. Velidhoo
AA. Velidhoo, which previously housed Velidhu Island Resort, was repurposed as the third coronavirus quarantine facility in March. The resort had been operational up until late 2019.
Fenaka team actively participated in the refurbishment of the facility. A total of 80 rooms have been completed for isolation purposes.
Quarantine Facility in K. Vilivaru
This abandoned resort was initially converted to a quarantine facility on March 6, with 30 patient beds. With the expansion project, Vilivaru quarantine facility can now accommodate 218 patients. 37 employees of Fenaka Corporation from various branches actively participated in the expansion project, which was completed within a mere 14 days. The facility was handed over to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on May 17 this year.
The Vilivaru quarantine facility is allocated specifically for the foreign nationals who test positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives.
Aside from establishing the quarantine facilities in various locations of Maldives, our employees have also assisted in the provision of electricity to several hospitals across the country and in minor construction works.
The hard work and dedication of our employees are deeply appreciated by the company. Furthermore, the exceptional leadership of MD Saeed played a pivotal role in uplifting and maintaining the motivation of employees and ensuring the smooth completion of the projects.
Fenaka shall always strive to stand firm and be of service to the best of our ability for every call of our nation. We take pride in all the national services we provide, even beyond our utility services.
