Fenaka Operates 60 Reverse Osmosis Plants

The RO plants are capable of producing 5880 tonnes of water per day.

Out of the islands to which Fenaka provides water services, 37 islands have reverse osmosis (RO) plants. Out of these, 15 islands have one RO plant each, 21 islands have two RO plants each and 1 island has three RO plants. Thus, the total number of RO plants operated by Fenaka totals to 60 with a total capacity of 5880 tonnes of water per day.

The RO plants take feedwater from boreholes drilled in the ground to 30 meters or deeper determined according to Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) regulations. The feedwater then passes through multiple prefiltration systems before passing through the RO membranes. The product water is then either chlorinated or passed through UV light for sterilization. To ensure that the water produced complies with EPA standards for potable use, the RO product water and feedwater is tested regularly.

The water supplied to households through these RO plants are of high quality and safe for drinking and cooking.
