25 Sewerage Treatment Plants Established in our Islands

Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) helps to remove pollutants, chemicals, solids, and microorganisms from sewage for safe disposal.

The sewage or wastewater that is collected from the sewerage systems carries a lot of toxic chemicals, microbes, oil, and other substances that pose harmful effects on global health. Hence, it is extremely important to treat sewage before being released into the environment. The main objective of sewage treatment plants (STPs) is to remove as many pollutants, chemicals, solids and microorganisms that may use up oxygen, which is needed by the plants and animals living in the water.

The first step of STP is primary clarification, which uses sedimentation to remove large solids and oily substances. Next, the Aerobic Biological Treatment uses beneficial microorganisms and aeration to breakdown organic matter to form sludge. The sludge is then fed into the sludge drying bed.

We are working to establish STPs in all the islands in which we provide sewerage maintenance facilities. As of now, we have 25 STPs under our operations.
