Providing Sewerage Facilities in 57 Isands

We ensure efficient and standardized operations and maintenance of sewerage systems to ensure public health and safety.

Sewerage systems play an important role in urban infrastructure and global health. These systems are safe and provide a hygienic mechanism to collect wastewater from households and other institutions, thereby preventing the spread of waterborne diseases. Currently, we operate and provide maintenance services to 57 island communities in the country.

The most common types of sewerage systems operated by FENAKA are of conventional gravity type. These systems use the difference in elevation to collect sewage from the network into the pump stations. This sewage will then be treated via sewage treatment plants, in those islands where such plants are established, and then pumped out into the sea via a sea outfall pipe. FENAKA also operates vacuum sewerage systems in 5 islands. These systems use a partial vacuum to maintain pressure below atmospheric pressure and allow for shallow pipe laying.

Advanced technologies in the field are being explored to standardize and further enhance our sewerage systems.
